Georgia River Rafting Guide

Although the Southeast lacks the jaw-dropping mountain scenery or long, multi-day wilderness escapes of river trips out West, it more than makes up for it in terms of accessible rivers, predictable water levels, and an excellent variety of whitewater that's good for everything for half-day family floats to hardcore one-day classics. Georgia's preeminent river, the Class III-IV Chattooga (immortalized in celluloid by Burt Reynolds in the '70s psycho flick Deliverance), furrows through deep canyons along the Georgia-South Carolina line. Here, beginner and intermediates will appreciate 13-mile Section III, from Earl's Ford to Highway 76, while those looking for the menacing backdrop to Ned Beatty's "Squeal, boy!" should look no further than the seven-mile Section IV, which stretches from Highway 76 to Lake Tugaloo.
