Vermont River Rafting Guide
Vermont's primary commercially rafted river is the West, located in the southern half of the state within easy range of Boston and Albany. Water levels here are contingent on scheduled dam releases from the Ball Mountain Dam, offering a brief but exciting season on select spring and fall weekends. The rapids within the Jamaica Gorge section are the West's whitewater highlight; the scenery is quintessentially "New England," including pastoral pastureland and the Green Mountains as your picture-perfect backdrop. It's good to go in the fall to experience the state in its legendary leaf-changing flux. Vermont's other notable course is the Winooski, a less accessible stretch between Montpelier and Lake Champlain that's favored by kayakers and canoeists.
